This May, I'm taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of my local children's hospital!

Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting me, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.

My reason for running

Tuesday 5th May
Everyone has a reason for taking part in The Million Reasons Run. Whether it be that they work with children or in health care, they may have been affected by childhood illness themselves or have a family or friend whose child has or is currently requiring care at one of the many Children’s Hospitals in Canada.

My reason is my daughter. ♥️
When I was 32 weeks pregnant with her we found out from an ultrasound that she had a mass on her heart. After meeting with a pediatric cardiologist and high risk obstetrician, it was decided we would deliver her two weeks early in Saskatoon where a team of professionals would be able to attend to her with us not knowing exactly how her heart mass would affect her. Jozie spent 12 days in the NICU at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital where she received great care and many tests to help us understand the mass on her heart. (We stayed at the Ronald McDonald house during this time, a place that is truly amazing beyond words and is a place many many families call home when their children are sick.)
In order to get better imaging and a diagnosis as to what exactly the mass is and what it means for her future, Jozie took an air ambulance to the Stollery in Edmonton for an MRI.
While the doctors were not able to give us a definitive answer as to what the mass is, they did gave us a better understanding of what they believe it to be.
Jozie was discharged from the hospital at two weeks old and we finally got to bring her home to meet her big brother!
Jozie continues to see a cardiologist at the Children’s Heart Centre at the Health Sciences Centre to monitor the mass. Her cardiologist is so amazing that she called me while we were still in Saskatoon to assure me that she would assume Jozie’s care and get her to Edmonton for that MRI, a scan that as every day passed in the NICU we felt may never happen based on beds being full, and ambulance rides tricky to secure.
Our two children are our whole world and we are so grateful to have them home, healthy and growing. It breaks my heart knowing how many families cannot say the same for their own children, and who spend more time at the hospital than in their own homes.

I am running for my daughter, and every other daughter and son out there who is, has been and will be a patient at the Children’s Hospitals in Canada.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting our hospitals. ♥️
