This May, I'm taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of my local children's hospital!

Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting me, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.

Why I’m Running(Walking)

Saturday 25th Apr
Hello! So first things first, I will be walking this challenge rather than running due to my body/health limitations. I thought I would write a bit about WHY I’m doing this though.
1. Elijah was born in May (May 27,2009 to be exact, hence the fundraising goal) and spent the first few weeks of his life in the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital as he was born with multiple airway disorders (Hence the team name). By age 5 he had had 5 surgeries at the Children’s hospital and several hospital stays, including hospitalization and treatment for Kawasaki’s Disease. So every May I can’t help but think of our times at Children’s hospital and how far we’ve come.
2. Elijah graduates this year from High School! When he was born there were a LOT of unknowns. Doctors could not tell us if he would survive. Never mind if he would ever play a sport. Play an instrument. Or even have a voice. He was a failure to thrive baby due to not being able to eat properly due to his airway disorders. The future looked pretty scary. A lot of what Elijah had was fairly rare so we didn’t know anybody else who had gone through it and even the doctors and nurses hadn’t seen many cases like his. If I could have seen him today then it would have been so amazing! To see a 6’3, 200 pound young man about to graduate high school a year early with his pick of universities? A young man who has always been at the top of his class? Who has played AAA hockey for years as well as varsity rugby? A guy who plays multiple
Instruments? These were all things that once seemed almost impossible. So to celebrate I want to give back to the hospital that gave us this opportunity!
