This May, I'm taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of SickKids Hospital!
My youngest son broke his left arm in 2021, after a fall from a slide. Due to the type of break the blood flow was cut off from Eddie’s left forearm and hand for approximately 4.5 hours, prior to surgery to reset the bones. This lack of blood flow resulted in having nonresponsive muscle in his arm, permanent damage to nerves at his fingertips and a contracture of his wrist and fingers. All of which caused Eddie to stop using his left arm and hand. We were immediately referred to SickKids hospital, once Eddie’s cast came off, and having been working with an amazing plastic surgeon and a team physiotherapists and occupational therapists to continuously improve Eddie’s function in his left hand and arm. We will continue to work with this team until Eddie stops growing (every time he has growth spurt everything contracts and we have to stretch it out again), but they have been able to empower Eddie, using different stretches and techniques, so that he can do anything that he wants to do.
