I never thought I’d do this.

This year, I’m joining the Million Reasons Run, a 31-day running challenge, to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital.

I’m not a runner at all — I’m actually a pretty sedentary person who hates running — so signing up for this is far outside my comfort zone. But after everything our family has been through, I wanted to do something meaningful. This run is for my baby, Malcolm, and for the people who carried us through some of the hardest moments of our lives.

BC Children’s has been part of Malcolm’s story since the very beginning. As an infant, he spent two weeks in the NICU there. More recently, during his illness, we again found ourselves relying on the hospital in ways we never expected.

In some of our darkest and most uncertain days, we were surrounded by extraordinary people: doctors, nurses, paramedics, social workers, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, ChildLife specialists, music and pet therapists, and even clowns who brought light into heavy moments. They cared not only for Malcolm, but for us too — with skill, compassion, and kindness we will never forget.

What means the most to us now is that Malcolm actually looks forward to his clinic visits. He’s excited to see his friends — his care team — and spend time in the amazing playroom. That says everything about the kind of place BC Children’s is and the people who make it what it is.

I’m doing this not because I’m a runner, but because I’m deeply grateful. I’m doing it to honor the people who helped our son, and to give back so other children and families can receive that same incredible care.

Thank you for supporting me and this cause that is so close to our hearts.

That’s a wrap

Monday 1st Jun
Catching up was hard! Running really isn’t my thing but with enough determination, walking at a brisk pace still counts -especially while carrying a toddler. Little guy even walked 3 laps with us yesterday. After a brief rest on the stroller, he said: I want to get down and run!

Bit of a delayed start

Thursday 14th May
Week 2 is almost over and you might be wondering why the distance meter hasn’t moved up. Well, little guy started back at daycare in week 1 and immediately picked up a cold that put us all out of commission most of this week. Good news is we are all feeling better today, a great sign that his immune system is functioning normally. We will be out running this long weekend to catch up on our kms!
