This May, I'm running for Mabel. I’m taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of my local children's hospital!
At 15 months old, our little one fell very ill and came under the wonderful care of Alberta Children’s Hospital. Though a very scary time full of tests, scans, blood transfusions and parade of specialists, we made it through and thankfully have a happy and healthy 3year old. What often takes years or longer diagnose an adult was done in a matter of months, and we could not be more greatful! Alberta Children’s Hospital will always have a place in our hearts.
Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting me, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.

Our Story - Part 2
Thursday 21st May This part is harder to write, mainly because I don’t recall all the details. What I knew - I had a 15 month old who was skin and bones, lost all interest in chattering, laughing, crawling, standing - and this was not normal. I took the stance of ‘I’m not going to worry until I have a reason to worry’, and instead I’ll just be there for my little girl. We were in isolation, anyone coming in the room had to gown up. Every morning was bloodwork and whatever test or scan for that day. There was one morning I remember as the ‘parade of doctors - 3 medical students wheel in a podium into her room, and with the presence of every specialist you can imagine, the students made their case. The facts, the symptoms, all of the possible diagnosis which was somewhat surreal to hear. Part of me was thinking they just had to rule the scary stuff out - that’s why oncology was there - but a couple days later when they came back saying cancer was ruled out, that doctor’s reaction and pure relief showed yes, that was actually a concern. She was hospitalized a total of 15 nights over a 3 month period. The diagnosis? Stay tuned! My favourite time of year to run!

Our story - The Beginning Part 1
Wednesday 6th May Our little Mabel was 15 months old - a happy, vibrant little one who was in the height of becoming quite active. She came down with a bad cold, and we noticed she just wasn’t quite the same… wanted to sleep all the time, refused to sit up, her back end was, uh, messy, and she started losing some weight. Our family doctor sent us for bloodwork. That evening as we sat down for dinner, we got a phone call from the blood lab telling us that we needed to go to the hospital. As he asked what hospital we were going to, he insisted that we actually should make our way to the Children’s Hospital. On our way, our family doctor called and I could hear a little panic in her voice. Something really was wrong.May 4: Early morning 5k
