This May, we're taking on a running challenge in support of SickKids!
Welcome to Team Alligator! I’m Alexander’s mom, and I’ll be running alongside his Grammy and Aunty Meg—my mom and sister. We’re taking on this challenge in support of the Hospital for Sick Children.
This year, our goal is to run a combined 150 km and raise $2,500 in support of the life-changing work at SickKids.
As many of you know, Alexander has been a patient at SickKids since birth. He has been followed by the urology department for hydronephrosis, and over the past year, our journey has become even more complex.
In the last year, Alexander received a new diagnosis that led to multiple emergency visits, hospital admissions, procedures under general anesthesia, and two emergency surgeries. Most recently, he underwent a life-changing surgery called a Mitrofanoff Creation—where surgeons used his appendix to create a catheterizable channel from his belly button to his bladder.
This is a rare surgery, and many pediatric cases are performed right here at SickKids.
Following his Mitrofanoff surgery, Alexander spent about a month in the hospital. He was initially admitted for recovery but returned just days later by ambulance due to complications. In total, he endured multiple hospital stays—each bringing new challenges and unanswered questions that we are still working through today.
Despite everything, Alexander continues to show incredible strength and resilience. His Mitrofanoff surgery, along with the incredible care he’s received at SickKids, has truly transformed his quality of life—and he’s now back to being a silly, playful three-year-old!
Every dollar raised will support life-changing care, groundbreaking research, and families like ours.
If you’re able to donate or share, it would truly mean the world! Thank you for supporting Alexander and all the strong and brave children at SickKids.
