This May, we're taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of our local children's hospital!
Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting our team, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.
Our oldest daughter, Evalee, is one of those statistics. In September 2024, Evalee was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy, Nephrotic Syndrome and Nephritic Syndrome. After a 10 day stay at Jim Pattison’s Children’s Hospital, she underwent a kidney biopsy, received albumin treatments over 4 days and IV medications, followed by a tapered treatment plan over the course of 6 months. Evalee’s symptoms remain present. Although her dietary restrictions are no longer as stringent as they once were, they are still in place, she still takes medication everyday, still is under the care of her pediatric nephrologist, undergoes different tests and regular appointments at JPCH. Even 18 months later, her numbers are not where they need to be for her illness to be considered in remission. Evalee is an inspiration to us all at only 12 years old, she never complains, keeps her dietary restrictions in check, remembers to take her daily medications, misses school for appointments and looking at her you’d never know she deals with all of this, with a smile on her face.
