kms RUN

kms GOAL

This May, I’m running for the health of every kid in Canada, as well as my own!

Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting me, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.

Please donate now and support me in my challenge!

Why I am running

Thursday 13th May
I’ve committed to running 80kms this month for children’s hospitals - I would love your support and here’s why:
Yesterday was Botox day - no it wasn’t for me!
Did you know that Botox is more than just a wrinkle filler? That same medicine that makes us all look younger is used in my daughters legs every six month to help relax and lengthen her muscles. Her CP causes her muscles to get extremely tight to where she can barley straighten her body. So here we end up every six months to relieve some pain and help her improve her mobility.
The day itself is long. She has to fast which is torture and then has to summon up the courage to be brave for her needle. Just one in the hand to help sedate her - but that one needle almost sends her into panic attacks. But look at her - she’s smiling and being as brave as she can be - such a hero.
She’s sedated and put into a dream like state (think drunk teenager) while the doctors inject 10 different needles into each of her legs - directly into the muscle. She doesn’t remember this part - thank god - but she does feel it. She calls out for me and cries a little - and then I cry a little. Again every six month people.
So why the long post today or even the post at all? You may notice I don’t actually post about Julia and her CP - not because I don’t want to talk about it (more than happy to when asked), and not because I’m ashamed of it or want to hide her condition - but because since she was 9 months old this has been our lives. This is Julia. This is who we are as a family it’s normal to me and to her and in my mind we’re kinda boring!
But today I post because the nurses and doctors you see in this picture are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. The kindness and compassion they show my daughter warms my heart more than words can ever describe. The subtle “I’m sorry sweetheart” when she cries out in pain or The squeeze on my shoulder when they see my eyes fill up with tears. That’s who these people are. And that’s why I am doing a small gesture of gratitude. Committing to run 80km In the Support of children’s hospitals. I’m already 33km in.
And today I ask for your support - as my family and thousands of families across Ontario and Canada relay on children’s services so much. Any donation will be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks my friends for making it through my long post.
